Weekly Market Re-Cap

With the exception of the currency markets, this was a week that saw very limited movement from the previous weekly close, although there was certainly some good volatility.  As such, it has been a difficult time to be a position trader, as many markets remain within some wide trading ranges while trading with significant intraday […]

Stocks Rally on GDP and Financial News, Crude drops

Probably the most interesting movement in the markets today was Crude Oil selling off over $2.00 after a higher opening.  Natural Gas also sold off hard today.  This in the face of a potentially strong hurricane taking aim on the the oil and gas rigs in the Gulf of Mexico.   This storm is due to […]

GDP report giving stocks a boost

A stronger than expected revision to the 2nd Quarter GDP report, from a 1.9% growth rate to a 3.3% growth rate is giving stocks a boost today, along with a drop in Crude Oil prices.  Oil prices are dropping in spite of Tropical Storm Gustav taking aim on the Gulf of Mexico.

Stocks rally on some positive economic news

The stock market enjoyed a decent rally today, after Durable Goods orders for July came in a bit stronger than expected.  The averages were lead higher by the Russell 2000, which actually fell the most during the recent pullback.  A decent follow through rally in the next few days would bode well for the market.  […]

Slow Day for the Stock Market, Dollar Strong

Today was a good day to go to the beach!  If you did, you didn’t miss much in the markets today, with the exception of a strong Dollar move.  Otherwise, it was a so-so day.  There was even plenty of data out this morning, involving new home sales and some consumer confidence surveys.  Russia also […]

The Bear Roars On

Stocks sold off sharply today, as the Bear re-asserted control over the short term direction of the market.  It is clear that the market is in the process of re-testing the July lows in the Down and S&P 500.  Unfortunately, the Russell 2000 was actually the weakest of the major averages today, as the selling […]

Weekly Market Re-Cap

Stocks posted big gains on Friday, but still ended the week primarily to the downside. The Russell 2000 and the Nasdaq posted the biggest losses for the week, while the S&P 500 and Dow Jones posted more modest losses. Overall though, Friday’s gains were not strong enough to suggest that there will be much follow […]

Happy Friday for Stocks, Dollar

The U.S. Stock Market enjoyed a nice Friday rally on the back of some comments by Warren Buffett that stocks present a better value now than they did last year, a bounce in the Dollar, and a plunge in Crude Oil that essentially wiped out yesterday’s gains.
I liked the rally today, except for one aspect…today’s […]
