Hedge Funds Have a Rough May

I just read on Bloomberg that hedge funds lost an average of 2.7% in May as the credit issues in Europe lead to steep stock market losses.  All things considered, I guess they hedged themselves fairly well, since most stock markets were down more than that for the month.  Still, the markets were moving, and […]

Stock Market Enjoys Explosive Rally, but…

U.S. Stocks posted 3% plus gains on Thursday.  Before the open, China indicated it would be selling any European debt or Euros, and reports also indicated that economic growth in China remains very strong.  I am not real sure that was the main reason for this rally though.  Maybe part of the reason was that […]

Stocks to Open Higher Thursday

On the back of news out of China that the Chinese will not be dumping European debt, U.S. stocks are poised for a strong rally at the open.  The Dow is set to open up nearly 2% at the open.  The question is, how will the market close today?
1st Quarter GDP was revised downward to […]

Stocks close lower in more volatile trading

U.S. Stocks posted a lower close today in more volatile trading.  Called to open higher this morning, as Europe found some stability, stocks were up by as much as 130 points on the Dow Jones before closing lower by 69.
In the last couple of sessions, there has been some positive economic news, but this has […]

U.S. Stocks to Open Higher

U.S. stocks will open higher this morning as the Euro is finding a little stability in the currency markets.  Stocks in Europe are primarily to the upside today as well.
Stock markets should get a decent bounce today and tomorrow…watch out for position squaring ahead of the long weekend on Friday, and light volume on Friday.

Stocks Erase Most of Losses in Afternoon Trading

U.S. Stocks erased most of the losses seen in the morning as they rallied throughout the day.  After a 300 point drop in the Dow Jones shortly after the open, stocks clawed their way back to close only down 22 on that average.  The S&P 500 eked out a tiny gain, and other averages were […]

U.S. Stocks set to plunge on Tuesday Open

U.S. stock markets are indicated over 2% lower this morning on concerns that North Korea is flexing its muscles in the east and fears that Europe is not getting its financial house in order.  While North Korea is likely just playing games again, the 3-month LIBOR has been spiking higher in the last couple weeks, […]

U.S. Stocks close lower, erase Friday’s gains

U.S. Stocks closed lower today, with an 80 point sell-off on the Dow Jones in the waning minutes of the session resulting in the market giving back about all of Friday’s gains.  The market declined on lower volume for the most part, which is typical of a Bear Market.  Yes, it is my opinion that […]

Stocks set to open lower on Friday

U.S. stocks are set to open lower again Friday, as the current correction continues.  However, expect some position squaring ahead of the weekend as short sellers cover positions after a profitable week betting against the market.  Whether this profit taking is enough to result in a positive day remains to be seen.

Stocks Sharply Lower

U.S. Stocks opened sharply lower due to continued financial turmoil in Europe.  Asian and European markets have been weak overnight, but selling accelerated upon the release of the weekly jobless claims report that showed a jump in claims of 25,000 from the previous week.
Can you say “double dip recession.”
